EZVIZ Just Launched One of the Cheapest Video Doorbells That Is Actually Good

Video doorbells usually mean a $150 to $250 buy-in before you even get to the monthly subscription most brands require for recorded footage. EZVIZ’s new CP8, launched this month, undercuts that significantly while keeping the features that actually matter for home security.

What You Actually Get

The CP8 ships with 5MP resolution, sharper than most doorbells in this price range, which typically top out around 2MP to 3MP, and a wide field of view designed specifically to minimize blind spots at the edges of the frame, a common weak point on cheaper doorbell cameras. It also includes built-in spotlights that power full color night vision, instead of the grainy black-and-white footage most budget doorbells fall back to after dark.

How Detection Works

The CP8 uses a PIR, or passive infrared, motion sensor to help distinguish people and packages from passing cars or blowing leaves, the same underlying detection approach pricier doorbells use, just tuned less aggressively at this price point, which can mean a few more false alerts than flagship models.

Who It Is Actually For

If you have been priced out of Ring or Nest by their ongoing subscription costs, or you just want a solid doorbell without the flagship price tag, this is a category worth watching closely. Budget doorbells are finally closing the feature gap instead of simply being a worse version of the expensive options in every category.
